Hydration is Key

Updated: May 13

Hydration affects focus, energy, and how young soccer players feel on the field. Make sure they’re drinking water before, during, and after the game.

For young soccer players, staying hydrated is part of playing their best. Water helps their bodies stay cool and their muscles work properly. Start hydrating the day before a game—not just at kickoff.

About 15 minutes before the match, kids should drink 5–10 oz of water.

During the game, encourage small sips at every break. After the final whistle, water—or a low-sugar electrolyte drink—helps them recover, especially if it was a hot or intense game. You can even make a simple DIY version at home: mix water with a pinch of salt, lemon juice, and a splash of 100% fruit juice or honey.
